Holds a degree in Industrial Pharmacy (1994), a Master’s in Pharmaceutical Sciences (1998), and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry (2002) from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, with a research stay at the University of Genoa.
Currently a Full Professor at the Federal University of Viçosa, he coordinates the Molecular Bioprospecting Laboratory and the BIOPROS Program. He is a permanent advisor in the Graduate Program in Applied Biochemistry and was the founder of the PET Program for Biochemistry at UFV. In 2014, he received the Peter Henry Rolfs Gold Medal for Extension Merit.
His research focuses on Pharmacognosy and Molecular Bioprospecting, particularly in bioactive natural products for agricultural pesticides and phytotherapeutics. He also works with chromatography and spectroscopy for quality control of medicinal plants and botanical pesticides.
He is active in public phytotherapy programs, science outreach, and environmental education.
