Brosimum gaudichaudii Trécul is a plant native to the Brazilian Cerrado biome, belonging to the Moraceae family, and is traditionally used as a therapeutic resource for treating vitiligo. The root of this plant contains the highest concentration of important photosensitizing compounds, among them psoralen and bergapten, which belong to the class of furanocoumarins. By definition, a phytotherapeutic product is one obtained exclusively from active plant-based raw material, with a prophylactic, curative, or palliative purpose. These products are characterized by the absence of isolated or highly purified active substances of any origin in their composition, as well as by the absence of combinations with other extracts. One of the main challenges in the production of a phytotherapeutic medicine is the complexity of the medicinal plant’s composition, which depends on climatic and geographical factors, as well as cultivation, drying, and storage conditions.
