Suzana G. Leitão
Pharmacist, MSc and PhD degrees in Natural Products Chemistry. Full Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro; Major skills: ethnopharmacology, phytochemistry, essential oils, phytotherapy, plant biotechnology. Past president of the Italo-Latin American Society of Ethnomedicine. Member of the Editorial Board of Journal of Ethnopharmacology. Associate Editor of the Brazilian Journal of Pharmacognosy since 2011. She has co-authored more than 120 research articles, 12 book chapters, 2 patents, besides invited lectures. Her group is holder of the first authorization to access traditional knowledge associated with bioprospecting purposes (2007), involving a contract between the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the quilombola communities of Oriximina, Brazil. She is holder of the Walter Mors Medal from the Brazilian Society of Chemistry (SBQ) in 2022, and received the Fernando de Oliveira Prize by the Brazilian Society of Pharmacognosy in 2023. She is involved with several international research groups in Australia, Argentina, Italy, Germany, Sudan, Mexico, etc.
