Botanical extracts have been used in traditional medicine for centuries, however many times the source plants are protected or difficult to access. We are discovering new, laboratory-cultivable sources for bioactive natural products typically used in medical supplements. In this work, we aim to provide an alternative, more sustainable production system for these therapeutic compounds while also revealing the molecular mechanisms behind their production.
