Ph.D. in Microbiology (with an emphasis on Mycology). Completed a sabbatical abroad at the Natural Products Utilization Research Unit of the United States Department of Agriculture (NPURU-USDA-USA). Full Professor in the Department of Microbiology at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). CNPq Level 1A Researcher. Member of the Brazilian Society for Microbiology and Editor-in-Chief of the Brazilian Journal of Microbiology. Member of the National Committee for Antarctic Research (CONAPA) of the Brazilian Antarctic Program.

General research focus: Systematics and Bioprospecting of Fungi. Has experience studying fungi from various tropical ecosystems in Brazil and polar ecosystems in Antarctica and the Arctic.
